The citizenship amendment bill was illegally approved to minimize population growth in India and to make India a Hindu nation.A series of people specially students are protesting in India against the citizenship act 2019.The protest mainly started from Assam,Delhi,meghalaya,manipur and tripura on 4th December 2019.
The protest's main reason is discrimination on the basics of religion. For this the student organisations, human rights activists came together to get this CAB act ban.During protesting,police were brutal again the protesters on university campus during demonstrations. As Assam has reached a record of 19.71 illegally immigrants.so, Assam citizens are opposing the act because they are frightened that the settlement of non-Assamese immigrants lead to demographic balance which will further result in violence.
The upcoming assortment of nation register of citizens will be used to hold back Muslims in Indian citizens. The CAB act gives the right to the government to make judgement between Muslims and non-Muslims as well as other illegal immigrants if they lack in providing the necessary documents that proves they are Indian citizens.Later,the protest erupted all the northeast India and to all major cities of India. On December 15th,when college student were demonstrating against this act in their university campus,police forcibly entered the Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University campus. They used batons and tear gas on the students in which more than 200 student were injured and 100 were detained overnight in police station. This level of brutality of police resulted in students intensifying their protests across the country in the hope to ban the CAB act.
This protest resulted in more than thousand arrests and 9 deaths.In police firing,two boys under the age of 18 were killed. several lawyers also criticized against citizenship amendment act and declared it unconstitutional. Even several organisations have passed a petition to supreme court of India to declare the bill as illegal and unconditional. Lastly, from several police stations, they issued a complete ban on protest. As a result for protesting the ban,thousand of protester were detained.
Naraendra Modi stated that CAB and NRC is not to target Muslims. He passed this act to maintain peace and to stay way from any sort of rumor-mongering and falsehoods. Non-Muslims also have joined the protest. They are trying to alienate one community from another. They are saying "this is not only a Muslim fight, its about humanity".
